Within 50% idea, modularization is a characteristic approach to accelerate process design. In this context, different points of view of modularization in design of chemical plants are described. Three types of modules are introduced and their influence on the planning process is demonstrated. Finally, the advantages of modular process design within 50% idea concept are discussed and required research is outlined.
