SMR is the primary process for hydrogen production. The SMR reactor, a one-staged reactor, has been packed with inerts andcatalysts. However, the packing configuration causes drastic temperature drop, which leads to uneven thermal stress to the reactor tube, and uneven usage ofthe catalysts. Hence, this study proposes multi-staged fixed bed reactors forSMR hydrogen production to distribute endothermic SMR reactions and reduce thetemperature drop. The double-tube SMR reactors are modeled using gPROMS. Thereactors consist of one-, two-, and three-staged sections with repeatedlypacking of inerts and catalysts. The one-staged reactor shows a 210℃temperature drop. On the other side, the other reactors show lower temperaturedrops. Moreover, the two- and three-staged reactors increase the conversion by3.5 and 5 %, respectively. |
