The photocatalytic oxidation of acetaldehyde was carried out over three different photocatalysts ; the alumina plates (450* 250* 0.635) were coated by TTIP as a precursor, a commercial daegussa P25 and RF magnetron sputtering, respectively. UV-A and UV-C(365nm, 245nm) of 15W were used as the source of lights. When the concentration of acetaldehyde in the reactor reached to be steady state, a light was started to irridiate. The order of the photodegradation of acetaldehyde was found to be P25> sol > RF sputtering. An acetaldehyde was completely oxidized over P25 in thirty minutes after the lights of UV-A and UV-C were irridiated. In the case of a photocatalyst made from sol-gel method, acetaldehyde decomposition rate at UV-A was found to be 40%, and at UV-C was found to be 100% in one and half an hour. In the case of photocatalyst made from RF sputtering process, acetaldehyde was not decomposed at UV-A and was decomposed less than 5% even at UV-C . The reactants and the products were analyzed by GC and GC/MS, and the catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET and SEM.
