n-Type Electrical Memory and Thin Film Morphology Controlled by Brush Polymer Bearing Perylene Diimide Moieties |

We synthesize Poly(N-(1-hexylheptyl)-N′-(12-oxydodecyl)perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxyldiimide acrylate) (PAcPDI), a perylene diimide (PDI) incorporating brush polymer. We examine the self-assembly and n-type memory characteristics of PAcPDI in nanoscale thin films. As-cast films of PAcPDI are fully amorphous, but the PDI units perform the formation of π–π stacks. During thermal annealing, the PAcPDI can self-assemble and form a horizontal lamellar structure. Monomorphic or polymorphic monoclinic crystals is formed by diverse π–π stack styles of the PDI units and film thickness. The differences of the thin film morphologies cause the electrical memory behavior. The thermally annealed thin films are confirmed that these tend to be high performance n-type unipolar volatile memory. The as-cast thin films are confirmed these tend to be n-type unipolar nonvolatile or volatile memory. The memory type of PAcPDI films can be changed by controlling the morphology and the film thickness. |
