A novel layered perovskite electrode for symmetrical solid oxide fuel cells: PrBa(Fe0.8Sc0.2)(2)O5+delta
A layered perovskite PrBa(Fe0.8Sc0.2)(2)O5+delta (PBFSc) is applied as both cathode and anode in the symmetrical solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) field and its electrochemical properties are investigated. La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O3-delta (LSGM) supported symmetrical cell with PBFSc electrode exhibits polarization resistances of 0.05 Omega cm(2) in air and 0.18 Omega cm(2) in wet H-2 at 800 degrees C. A maximum power density of 921 mW cm(-2) is obtained using wet H-2 as the fuel and ambient air as the oxidant at 850 degrees C. Moreover, the electrode demonstrates good redox stability in both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres. The layered perovsldte PBFSc with favorable performance characteristics is shown to be an effective, redox-stable electrode candidate that can be used for both cathode and anode.
