A major goal for the Gullfaks satellites project (GSP), operated by Statoil, was to reduce the cost of subsea installations by 40% compared with an earlier Statfjord satellites project. The Gullfaks South, Rimfaks, and Gullveig fields have been tied back to the Gullfaks A platform by use of innovative subsea wellhead-to-platform technology that enabled a faster and less expensive development compared with previous projects in the North Sea. Although the facilities have been installed successfully, not all the objectives for quality assurance of design and fabrication were met.
