Gathering and processing associated gas in the Niger delta
Nearly 2 million B/D of oil is produced from fields in the Niger delta, west Africa. The approximately 2,000 MMscf/D of gas associated with this oil production currently is flared. Operators are placing new infrastructure and systems in place to gather, process, and transport this gas. A major initiative in this gas recovery is the liquified-natural-gas (LNG) project that began operation at Bonny Island in October 1999. The full-length paper discusses the issues and challenges associated with implementing process technologies for gathering, processing, and transporting the Niger delta associated gas.
